Holy Week: Wednesday The Bible honestly describes people’s varying responses to Jesus in light of his teachings and miracles: Some believed, some couldn’t see clearly who he was, and some believed in secret because of the consequences they would face. Read John 12:37-50, which describes how people struggled to believe in Jesus and how Jesus reacted.

The troubling words of verse 43 describe people who believed in Jesus, but didn’t want anyone to know for fear of what others would think:
“For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.”

Have you ever wanted people’s approval more than God’s? Are there situations or relationships that make this especially difficult?

Also in today’s reading, verses 44 through 46 share this:
Jesus shouted to the crowds, “If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark."

Today, ask Jesus to shine his light in the places of your life where you need clarity. Ask to have an open, soft heart that puts its trust in God.

You’re invited to join us this Friday (March 29 - Good Friday), for a self-guided prayer event, where you’ll have space to both pray and reflect. For information about all upcoming Easter at West Side opportunities, go to wschurch.org/easter.
