In last week’s devotions, Paul emphasized that his own spiritual background and accomplishments were trash in comparison to a real connection to Jesus. These next words from Paul are profound and a bit mysterious.
I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!
Philippians 3:10-11
What stands out to you as you read these words?
Paul expresses his desire to experience not only the victory of Jesus’ resurrection but also the suffering and death that precedes it. Paul isn’t simply saying this; his life shows that he was willing to experience hardship, including being imprisoned, because he was a follower of Jesus.
Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are central to our faith. How does his example help us understand suffering and death in the bigger story? As you reflect on Paul’s words about what he wants, what do you want?
Practice: Who do you know that is going through something difficult? Reach out to them to let them know that you are thinking about them. Consider if there is a way for you to bless and encourage them practically.
