Our perspective on God and his plan is often limited by what we can see. We are limited to being in one time and place in history. Thankfully, God has a perspective that stretches far before and beyond us. We can remember and hold onto the truth that He sees everything from a higher perspective. We can trust him even when we can’t get a glimpse of his ultimate purpose. Ephesians 1 reminds us of the unique position Jesus has:

“And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God.” Ephesians 1:10-12

The Message paraphrase says it this way: “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.”

Have you glimpsed any more perspective on your identity and purpose during this series so far? What do you know to be true about who you are and what you’re living for? Say a short prayer remembering that Jesus can see in ways you cannot. Ask him to show you how he wants you to be part of his ultimate purpose.

If you’re reading through the full book of Ephesians, read Ephesians 1:9-14 today.
