There are so many opinions and perspectives we could listen to about the purpose of our lives and how to live them. As we keep reading through Colossians (2:13-23), we hear the reminder over and over that everything finds its place and purpose in Jesus Christ. He is the ultimate source and reference point for everything – our questions, our debates, and our decisions. And He is who gives us purpose.

Paul instructs the church to discern whether others are grounded in Christ before listening to their rules and judgments.
“For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality. Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud, and they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it.” Colossians 2:17-19

What voices or influences are loudest in your life lately? Take a moment to write down some of the messages and stories that surround you. Then, pause and invite Jesus to remind you that he is what is real and true.
